Pricing & Classes

 

Basic Mechanical Skills

Class: In-Home: $60

Class will be held at your house by Jason Alvey. Bring a friend if you like so you can split the cost. Maximum of two people. Class length - 1.5 hours. 

 

  • How to change a punctured tube, how to identify the many causes of a flat tire and how to fix them, rim and tire maintenance. 

  • Drivetrain maintenance, lubrication, chain tension, pedals.

  • Brakes, how to adjust them, dealing with common problems

  • Proper shifting techniques, when to shift, tricks, what is soft-pedaling?

  • Overall bike mechanical safety, what to check, how tight should things be, what is cause for concern and what isn't. 

 

Getting Ready for the Minnesota Winter: In-Home $60

Class will be held at your house by Jason Alvey. Bring a friend if you like so you can split the cost. Maximum of two people. Class length - 1.5 hours.

 

  • Discuss the pros and cons of various winter tire choices. Fat tires, studded tires, or both? 

  • How to keep your hands and feet warm and dry.

  • How to effectively layer and how many layers you'll need for different temperatures.

  • Different kinds of snow/ice conditions and what to expect.

  • Winter bike maintenance and common mechanical problems caused by extreme cold.

 

Urban Ride Skills Class: $75

Ride lead by Jason Alvey with just you, or with you and a friend so you can spit the $75 price.

  • This is a 10 mile or so instructional ride designed to give new riders experience and confidence in dense urban environments.

  • At least some of the ride will be in heavy traffic.

  • Explanation of road rules and special signals pertaining to cyclists.

  • What to do if you do get hit by a driver.

  • How to ride defensively and avoid getting hit while not making drivers angry.

 

Bike education class: In-Home $60

Class held by Jason Alvey at your home. Bring a friend and split the cost. Maximum of two people. Class length - 1.5 hours.

  • Discuss the pros and cons of bike frame material: Steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, and titanium.

  • Learn about different styles of bikes and advantages/disadvantages of each.

  • Anatomy of a bike and how frame geometry affects the feel of the ride.

  • Understand proper bike fit and learn about common myths and misunderstandings.

  • Discuss different component and drive train systems: Shimano, Campagnolo, and SRAM.

  • Learn about frame design and anatomy of a bike. 

  • Pedals: clipless vs platform.

  • Accessories: Apparel, lights, tools, everything else.

 

First-time adult rider class - How to ride a bike: $60

  • Many people never had the opportunity to ride a bike as a child. Learning to ride as an adult can be intimidating and difficult. People who've never ridden a bike before often say it's not intuitive and doesn't come as naturally as most of us might think.  

  • Class will be hosted at or near your home at a safe location away from vehicles. 

  • Class is 1.5 hours, by the end of which you'll be riding, hopefully with some degree of confidence.

  • Class is for any adult who is physically able to ride a bike and would like to learn to do so.

  • Are you a recently arrived immigrant and you've never had the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike? I would be honored to teach you and share with you the joy of cycling!   

 

 

Basic Mechanical Skills Class - Corporate: $500

Class held by Jason Alvey at place of business or nonprofit for up to 30 people. Lesson covers all the same content as the private in-home class. Two Hours. Includes half an hour for questions.

Class held by Jason Alvey at place of business or nonprofit for up to 30 people. Lesson covers all the same content as the private in-home class. Two Hours. Includes half an hour for questions.

 

Interval Workout Group Rides: $20 per person

High energy, fast-paced, interval rides lead by Jason Alvey. Spring and Early Summer only. Each ride will include instruction and coaching, no group riding experience necessary. Come ready for a very intense workout. Think of it as a spin class but outside, on your real bike, and much harder!

Location of ride is given at time of sign up and completion of waiver.

 

Payment information

I accept cash or check (with ID) on the day, or pay in advance with PayPal.

 

For corporate events, 50% down is required to hold the date. Balance due on the day of the event in either cash or business check.
